For many, Moddi’s voice is the sound of Christmas, after the young Senja native was hand-picked by Crown Prince Haakon to sing “Nordnorsk julesalme” at the Royal Palace Christmas concert in 2011.
Since then, his music has become a household name, and last year Moddi released his own Christmas album for the first time!
Moddi himself has a complex relationship with the Christmas season, for better or worse.
“I find it hard to find peace in all the stress and pressure of expectations,” he says.
“That’s why I wanted to make a Christmas album about the things I wish Christmas was about. About finding our way back to each other after a long and hectic year. About breathing out and belonging where you are.” The album “Denne tida i fjor” is packed with highlights, with guest contributions from Frida Ånnevik, Arktisk Filharmoni and a new recording of “Nordnorsk julesalme”.
“I’ve tried to make a record that brings out the contrasts, both the good and the difficult things. I think there are more people than just me who need that.”
