Almost forty summers in the village left a deep mark on Sørensen’s art, and the landscape around Smørklepp was an important source of inspiration.
The museum is located in a distinctive gallery in natural stone, designed by the famous architect Bjart Mohr. Here you get a close encounter with the art – placed in the middle of the landscape that inspired it. Harald Kihle also features prominently in the exhibition; the two artists both worked and lived together in Smørklepp.
A visit to the museum can be combined with an easy and atmospheric hike in the cultural landscape between Smørklepp and Mjonøy. The circular trail takes you through the same landscape from which the artists drew their motifs, colors and moods, and provides a holistic experience of nature, cultural history and art – especially nice in the summer.
