Diktarheimen Midtbø is a living poet's home where some of the most important works in Norwegian literature were created - in the landscape, silence and everyday life that characterized the lives of Halldis Moren Vesaas and Tarjei Vesaas.

Practical information

The poet’s home Midtbø is located at Europavegen 134 in Vinje. Authors Halldis Moren Vesaas and Tarjei Vesaas lived here from 1934 to 1970, when Tarjei died. Halldis continued to live in Vinje and Oslo until she died in 1995.

Midtbø was both home and workplace, and an important source of inspiration for their poetry. Nature, the seasons and everyday life on the farm left clear traces in their works – and today provide the setting for an evocative encounter with Norwegian literary history.

Today, the Vinjesenteret is responsible for providing information and keeping Diktarheimen Midtbø open to the public during the summer season. The garden is still used for private use by the family, and visitors are asked to show consideration and respect this outside opening hours and in the parts of the area that are not open to the public.
