Vinjevatn along the E134 offers quiet and idyllic paddling in beautiful countryside. The lake is suitable for both kayaks and canoes, and the area is rich in wildlife – you may be lucky enough to see moose, beavers and smaller animals such as weasels.
You can launch a kayak or canoe at the Tveito dam. Be aware that there may be a current in the water when water is released from the dam. The first few kilometers are narrow and winding, with some sections with strong currents.
For newcomers, it’s safest to start paddling at Særensgrend. Here the lake is wider and calmer, and you’ll find many nice places to land – for resting, fishing or simple camping. If you paddle from the dam to the west side of the lake and back again, the trip is about 20 km.
Tips:
– Vinjevatn can be cold even on hot summer days – always wear a life jacket.
– At the far end of the lake is Sandnes beach, a long, fine sandy beach that is ideal for swimming and taking a break.
– Get a fishing license if you want to bring a fishing rod.
Have a nice and safe trip!
