Vinjevatn along the E134 offers idyllic paddling and rich wildlife; start at the Tveito dam or for beginners at Særensgrend, and enjoy swimming at Sandnes beach
Activity information
Vinjevatn, which stretches along the E134 from Tveito just west of Åmot up to Vinjesvingen, is an idyllic gem, especially at the bottom of the watercourse, and is ideal for kayaking and canoeing.
This area offers varied wildlife, where you can observe everything from moose to beavers and even smaller animals such as weasels.
The easiest place to launch your kayak or canoe is close to the dam at Tveito, but beware if water is released from the dam and down the river.
The first few kilometers are narrow and winding, with sections of strong current.
Be aware of this when paddling upstream.
For those lacking experience, you may want to start the trip at the bridge in Særensgrend.
Further up, the water becomes wider and you will find many great places to go ashore for camping, resting or fishing.
If you paddle from the dam all the way up to the west side of the lake and back to the dam again, the total distance is about 20 km. Tip 1: Even in the hottest summer months, Vinjevatn can be quite cold.
Always wear your paddle vest. Tip 2: At the far end of Vinjevatn you will find a long and beautiful sandy beach called Sandnes.
This is a great place to swim.
Have a fantastic paddling trip!
