The Vinje Center is a national center for poetry and journalism, based on the lives and works of Aasmund Olavsson Vinje, Aslaug Vaa, Tarjei Vesaas and Halldis Moren Vesaas. Through modern exhibitions, guests gain insight into what poetry and journalism can tell us about people, society and the present.
The exhibition contains excerpts from books and journalism, images, quotes and digital installations, as well as games about source criticism, a children’s trail, a children’s wall, a reading corner and a rich book collection. This makes Vinjesenteret a place where children, young people and adults can explore language and literature on their own terms. At the reception you will find simple refreshments and a small museum shop.
The Vinje Center also uses events as an important part of its outreach. Throughout the year, lectures, talks, readings and other literary events are held that highlight language, literature and social issues. The center offers special programs for school classes, adapted to different ages, with an emphasis on reading, reflection and source criticism.
Every year, the Vinjesenteret organizes the Literature Days, their main event, which runs over three days and brings together authors, communicators and the public for a diverse program with literature, language and culture at the center.
The Vinje Center also offers guided tours of Vinjestoga, the childhood home of Aasmund Olavsson Vinje, where literature is closely linked to the town, life and landscape.
